Books + Publishing: Island magazine will be print-only in 2015

Posted by Michael Brady

Tasmania-based literary journal Island will be print-only from 2015.

The quarterly magazine will increase its print run by 200% and add more stockists, while also revamping its website and increasing its social media presence. In a statement, a spokesperson said the magazine has been embracing print in ‘an operational and editorial sense’ since Matthew Lamb took over as editor in 2013.

Island operations manager Kate Harrison said the magazine would be ‘using the digital tools available to us more strategically, as a supplement to the print magazine, not as a replacement. It’s like a museum or art gallery—you can read about them in the press and you can see pictures online, but at the end of the day, to get the full experience, you have to make the effort to actually visit the place.’

Lamb said the magazine owed its ‘increasing success’ to its creative team of fiction editor Geordie Williamson, poetry editor Sarah Holland-Batt, and art director Michael Brady
