Expressions of Interest: Part-time Managing Editor of Island Magazine
EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST - MANAGING EDITOR, ISLAND MAGAZINE
Ideas. Writing. Culture.
Island is one of Australia’s leading journals of culture and ideas. Based in Tasmania, it offers insightful writing and design, dealing with serious topics that matter to a national readership. First published in 1979, the magazine has recently been undergoing a fresh phase of creative innovation and growth.
Audiences have taken note. So far, in 2015, the number of paid subscriptions has increased by more than 150 per cent and retail sales, nationally, have also been increasing. Island remains on track to fulfill its principal creative goal: to exemplify Tasmania’s growing contribution to the vitality of Australia’s cultural landscape.
From January 2016, Island Magazine Inc. (an incorporated not-for-profit organisation) wishes to contract a part-time Managing Editor. This role will have editorial responsibility for managing the content and production schedule of Island to fulfill the strategic objectives and standards determined by the board.
Along with strength of editorial judgment and a capacity for teamwork, the successful candidate will possess the essential skills of copy-editing and proofreading.
Located in Hobart and reporting to the board, the Managing Editor will work with an editorial committee comprising an Editor-at-Large and specialist editors, and alongside the Operations Manager of Island.
In the first instance, please address inquiries or Expressions of Interest to Operations Manager, Kate Harrison: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Closing date for submissions is Friday 16 October 2015.
