Announcing the 2023 Nonfiction Prize shortlist
We were once again overwhelmed by the quality of both writing and ideas we've seen in the Island Nonfiction Prize. This year's shortlist reflects the many different ways Australians are writing, with mixed media, fragments, academia and poetics all featuring.
Judges Giselle Au-Nhien Nguyen, Fiona Wright and Anna Spargo-Ryan are thrilled to announce the following pieces as those that stood out most significantly among a remarkable selection of entries ...
Carly Stone for 'The Other Hand'
Indigo Bailey for 'Rain Rain'
Isabella Wang for 'Clothing the Whiteness'
Meredith Jelbart for 'Collection of Collections'
Sarah Firth for 'We Were Here'
The winner is scheduled to be announced later this month, and all five pieces will be published in Island 168, out late July.
Our thanks to everyone who entered this year's prize, our wonderful hardworking judges, and a special thanks to the Copyright Agency's Cultural Fund for supporting this prize.
