Ichthyophobe – by Megan Cartwright

ISLAND | ONLINE ONLY

Now, fish feel like an allergic reaction,

puffed, swollen cheeks like toddlers,

spotted bodies snagging on the reeds.

I cannot walk that haunted loop

without seeing her, babies slick

with pond silt. The snag, at the bend.

Once, she rocked those tiny children. ▼
