The Last Ever Comic to be Published in a Literary Magazine…Ever!!

ISLAND | ISSUE 169

This graphic narrative was published in Island 169 in November 2023, to mark the conclusion of The Nanna, Island’s graphic narrative project. Curated by Joshua Santospirito, the project published comics from Australian creators in issues 166 through 169. To see this comic in print, or read its heartbreakingly beautiful companion, ‘The Perfect Human’ by Niki Bañados, buy a copy of the magazine from the Island shop.

Joshua Santospirito

Joshua Santospirito is an award-winning graphic novelist and multimedia artist. Two or three years ago he began openly whingeing on social media about how comics are excluded from literary scenes. In an odd sequence of events resulting from this, he got a book deal. His third graphic novel, The Islands Where We Left Our Ancestors, is due out in 2024 through Scribe. Josh was the guest curator for Island’s graphic narrative project.
